WEEK 16 - Speaking Of...
Fields in Texas remind me of The Master (2012) when Joaquin Phoenix's character, Freddie, is running through the desert. It's almost as if we are the tracking camera and I can imagine the shot happening with my own eyes. Also Blood Simple (1984). I am living out Blood Simple (1984) everyday in Sealy (which is in Austin county which the film was filmed in). Not only because of the scenery but also because I am being tracked down by a private investigator.
Speaking of Blood Simple (1984), this week I found out how to get a marriage license and a lovely lady who works at the Austin County Court Office now thinks that I am getting married super soon because we were calling to find out how Anyerson and his wife can get married before their baptism.
Speaking of which, we have to move their date because they aren't married yet which sucks but I'm sure it will work out in the end. The ward is super ready to throw a wedding, but his wife, Angelica, needs to get better first. She's currently pregnant but is super sick so we gave her a blessing in Spanish which was really, really powerful. If you pray, please include this family in your prayers so we can throw the most awesome fiesta ever when they get married.
Speaking of fiestas, we got a phone call from President Richards on Saturday night. Elder Lawyer was like, “you only get a phone call from President if someone has died or someone is getting emergency transferred. This can't be good.” Turns out, it was a very, very good phone call. The Katy Stake Presidency has decided to host a Spanish Fireside in Sealy, for Sealy Spanish members of the Church!!! Our prayers have been answered. Our fight for a Spanish group or a Spanish branch for Sealy is happening. President said that the Stake Presidency uses things like these to decide how many active members there are and if a group or a branch were to be created, this would be a determining factor. President is also speaking at the fireside which is super exciting. So, we are going to make this an event like no other. We've already got the members excited and helping us plan, and I just cannot wait for the future of Sealy. I can't even imagine what the ward will look like in a couple years let alone by the end of May. So now, we're just working to get as many active and inactive members as possible so that their dreams can be achieved, God-willing.
Speaking of which, God's will has been blessing the work here in Sealy. I had an experience that I can't even begin to describe because it solely occurred because of God's will. Elder Lawyer and I were riding bikes to go meet up with one of our friends, even though it was pretty late in the night–like 8:30–and I had the impression to turn the opposite direction on a road we had never biked before and towards a group of trailers we had never knocked before. So, I did, and had the feeling that there was someone in one of those trailers that we had to meet. We got to the end of the stretch and I decided that the trailer we needed to knock was the one that was second-to-last, absent of cars, and one that had its lights on. There were two trailers beside it, both with cars outside, and both with their lights on. But this trailer, the second-to-last trailer, was the one. I jumped off my bike, ran up to knock its door and as my hand was extended, inches away from the door, a car pulled in and just about ran over Elder Lawyer who was still getting off of his bike. Before we knew it, Francisco jumped out of the car and we ended up having the most awesome conversation with him. He just moved here from South Carolina, literally three days before this meeting, and was super, super cool. What are the odds that we were in the right place, at the right time? What are the odds that those impressions I had, and followed, ended up being exactly in line with God’s will? Slim. Follow those spiritual impressions because they are the only way we can truly follow God's will. I sat there in absolute disbelief after that interaction. I could have never known Francisco would get home when he did and I could have never known the road we turned onto would have led us to new trailers, but God did. I know this to be true.
Speaking of which, I cannot wait to keep telling you guys about what I know to be true. It's a blessing to be able to share my testimony with everyone, especially you guys. Try sharing your testimony sometime this week and I promise you will be blessed. We had the opportunity to hear from Elder Alonso of the Seventy this past week in Houston (he talked in General Conference) and he talked a lot about sharing testimonies. So, again. Share what you know to be true. Love you all. I'll talk to you next week.
