WEEK 39 And 40 - The Past Two Weeks
I don’t know how I’ll be able to summarize the past two weeks if I can barely remember what happened yesterday, but here goes nothing.
Tuân, our most progressing friend, has fallen off. We don’t know if he’s even alive. He texted us “Tôi bỏ cuộc” which means “I give up,” but also could mean “I’m going to kill myself” given the context of his text. We haven’t heard from him since he texted us this. So, everyone, please, please, please pray for him.
We had a Zone Conference one of these two weeks and it went super good. We trained in front of the entire mission on how “Saturday is a Special Day” because it’s the day we get ready for Sunday–on media. We invite all our friends to church using all the content we post. That’s been a big push for us as a mission because the general authorities have given us, and a couple other missions, this initiative to get our friends to church and to wholly prioritize that. Through our faith, we set a goal of 300 friends coming to church this past Sunday–which is huge. We ended up getting 303 friends to church. We exercised all energy of heart, might, mind, and soul, and we did it; we achieved our goal. Miracles will continue to be wrought out here in the great THSM.
I was able to go to the temple three times last week and three days in a row. After nine months without a mission-wide temple trip, we were finally able to go. We took pictures of all the missionaries on all three days and were able to do every single ordinance except sealings. I missed the temple soooo bad. It is such a blessing and such a place of peace that I wish we could go to more often (like some other Houston missions).
I’ve been grinding out member interviews and we’ve been meeting with more stakes and stake representatives to upskill our members living in Houston to utilize social media as the divine tool that it can be. As of right now, I’ve been to every single zone in the mission and hope to travel to every single area by the end of my mission. I love it down here.
We spent last Monday in Galveston for Elder Scott’s “Last P-Day” where he got to choose anywhere in the mission to go to and what he wanted to do. We met up with the other missionaries who were going home in his transfer group and frolicked around Galveston. I for real love that place and I really do hope I can get a chance to serve there–even if it’s the last thing I do. We saw dolphins and jellyfish and it reminds me so much of home it’s crazy.
Other than that I released a missionary rap video, Elder Scott got anointed to be a Catholic priest, I met the first TA of my anthropology professor, and was dubbed Elder John-Spielberg-Son by my Cuban Grandpa (newly acquired).
Have a great week and see you all later.
