WEEK 41 - The Mormon Superbowl
What a week. What a day. What a time to be alive. We had one of the biggest events in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint culture this weekend called General Conference. It’s basically where we hear God speak through His living prophets and twelve apostles. The conference is always an edifying and uplifting experience and I cherished every single one of the talks and testimonies that I heard this weekend. Some of my favorite speakers were Elder Andersen, President Freeman, Elder Christofferson, Elder Kearon, Elder Gong, Sister Yee, Elder Budge, and the prophet, President Nelson. I also correctly guessed that there would be temples built in Maputo, Mozambique and Dublin, Ireland–two of my favorite places on the planet. I learned so much from this conference I can’t even begin to list everything that I gained from it. Let’s just say, revelatory visions of my future have been gained and I cannot wait to continue to live this Gospel of joy and grow closer to my Heavenly Father and my savior, Jesus Christ.
Since we’re starting with things that happened yesterday and the day before, lemme take you through the week backwards.
Seal Team 6 has been relocated to the mission office for all of our media endeavors. Friday and Thursday were spent grinding in the mission office editing, planning, and scheduling. One of the senior missionaries, Elder Christensen, had us over for steak dinner at his house on Thursday night because Elder Scott was finishing his MyPlan (a system of lessons put in place to make sure that missionaries adjust back to normal life once they get home) and his last lesson was on dating and marriage, so we did it over steak. That made for a pretty fun conversation especially when it came to each of us, Elder Phan, Elder Scott, and I sharing our relationship status, ambitions, and histories.
On Wednesday, Tuân contacted us again!! Thank you all for your care and prayers for my friend. We had a really long lesson talking about what happened and by the end of it, he was ready to continue following Jesus Christ, understanding the power of the Atonement and how we truly do not need to be perfect to be baptized and that everyone sins which is why we have a Savior who can forgive us because He knows us.
On Tuesday we had a really powerful MLC about caring for the one and how we can continue to uplift those who are struggling in the mission. I also had my interview with President Garn and it was super awesome. We talked about strategies to live in constant revelation by walking with God. He is just the best. We’re convinced that he has seen an angel before or something because he is just such a disciple of Christ.
On Monday, directly after P-Day finished we went out with one of Elder Scott’s friends from a long time ago who he helped pass her citizenship test and she took us to a Vietnamese restaurant where the specialty was phá lấu. The dish phá lấu is cow organs. I had stir-fried noodles with cow organs for dinner and just about threw up halfway through when the stuff I was eating started looking a little too much like intestines (especially when black stuff was oozing out of the meat). It was an experience for sure.
I’ve been reading El Don Divino Del Perdón (The Divine Gift of Forgiveness) by Neil L. Andersen and I have been loving it. I highly recommend reading it for anyone who is seeking to better understand why there must needs be a Savior and what the Atonement of Jesus Christ truly covers, besides just our sins. Keep moving forward, keep looking to the light of this world, and keep preparing for the time that our Savior will return–and He will return.
