WEEK 56 - His Eye Is On The Sparrow

I have fallen in love with that hymn over the past couple of weeks, and I don’t quite know why. That’s a lie. I do. I love the fact that it speaks of how Jesus’ gaze is upon the sparrow, so we know he watches over us, too. The small details in this life make me appreciate the glory of God and everyday I am fortunate enough to see those little details.

The past three weeks have been insane. As of right now, we have three baptisms set up for this next Sunday. Ricky, who has been cleansed and changed through Jesus Christ and His Atonement and Josiah, the smartest ten year old I have ever met. Josiah’s mom also needs to be baptized, even though she is a member of the church. It turns out we could not find her records and when she was baptized, 20+ years ago, they never entered in her records correctly so we get the privilege and honor of officially baptizing her into the church that she’s been a part of her entire life.

I love the Houston 8th ward with all of my heart. They are just the most loving, excited ward I have served in. And, they love us!!

I said that this email was going to be super big, but there really isn’t a ton more that I can truly say. This past week we saw a bunch of tiny miracles, all of them involving members. We ate with my favorite Guatemalan family ever, the Baten’s and the dinner ended in tears as Hermana Baten explained her entire conversion story and then asked me to give her a blessing. At another family’s house–that we felt spiritually inspired to go visit–we found out that one of the kids was having a really bad headache for the past like three weeks so then we discovered why we needed to go visit them because immediately after we gave him a blessing, his headache went away. It was awesome. Priesthood power frfr. (Then the family bought me a jacket for the snow that is coming tonight)

We have an amazing friend, Yureny, who is the best person ever. She put in a media referral and, this past Sunday, she explained to us that she was trying to find a church because she wondered why there were so many. So, she put in referrals for like four different churches, including ours. We ended up being the only ones reaching out to her and by the time we had, she was only going to respond to us. She broke down in tears during our class on Sunday because we were talking about her very question that ended up being answered because she put in that referral. She is just so awesome. I love her so much.

We also are teaching a Colombian family of like 12 and every time we go over it is like the most insane lesson over. It literally feels like a sitcom with the absurdity that happens every single time. But, they’re awesome. I just hope that we can get them chill enough for them to feel the Spirit and want to act upon those feelings.

I’m giving a talk on Sunday in Spanish which is the first time I have ever given a talk on the mission, let alone in Spanish, so please pray for me so that I can continue to win over all the members and get them excited and anxiously engaged in the missionary work happening in their barrio. Also pray that our pipes don’t explode and that we have power after tonight when it snows in mfing Houston.
