WEEK 25 - The Wonders Of The Lord

“...Sanctify yourselves: for to morrow the Lord will do wonders among you.” (Joshua 3:5)

If we’re continuing my adoration for the book of Joshua and the character of Joshua, this quote feels like the culmination of how the week went, as well as a welcome conclusion to my two part analysis of how much I empathize with Joshua.

This week I put my full trust into the Lord and so many things happened. First, we had transfers. Elder Lawyer left and I stayed in Sealy to be senior companion and lead the area with Elder Funk–and just like that, I had to fill in his role within the area. Although I felt like I was making the big decisions before, the shifting of titles made me feel immense pressure, especially because Elder Funk has been out longer than me. And just like that, as I put my trust in the Lord, we saw miracles. We have been working to find people who are ready for the Gospel, with a greater push and a greater focus on building a Spanish Branch in Sealy. We also had a baptism this last Saturday with one of our nine year olds that we’ve been teaching. The heat has been ever present, and yet I feel more chill than ever before. With a district of only four elders, there’s left a lot of time for me to think and study. I can’t even begin to describe how much I have grown since I first left home; looking back so much has changed. I am simply in awe with the wonders of the Lord. He has done wonders around me and will continue to do wonders. I invite you all to take a second, whether that be in your personal studies or driving home from work or moments before you go to sleep and think about all the small things–all the small wonders–that have been surrounding you. I promise you they are there. And as you continue to look for them, write them down. Never forget those wonders because someday you’ll need them; continue to be like Joshua.

“And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15)

P.S. I’m done talking about Joshua for the rest of my mission. I’m looking to make an adaptation of the book of Ruth with the look and feel of a Kelly Reichardt film when I get home and if anyone steals that idea I’m suing you.
