WEEK 48 - Piano Van
My life on the road continues. This time I spent half of the week at my Mission President’s home and the other half living out of our car in the other Elder’s apartment. Apparently, there have been some complications with the apartment complex that we live in and the cleaning of our apartment, but, thankfully, God has us. On Monday, as we left our apartment to go to transfers, I prayed that we might be able to sleep in our own apartment someday soon and pleaded with God to help us. Immediately after we left the apartment, a man driving a golf cart whirred by and stopped, asking me, “Do you live in the apartment with the mold?” How did he know?? He explained that we needed to go into the leasing office and sign something for them to send a contractor to fix the mold. An immediate response to a plea to God. The irony also immediately set in, all of last week was pointless because the apartment complex wasn’t making any attempts to clean our apartment because there was a document that needed to be signed–even after the complex had told our senior missionary that they had cleaned the apartment; they lied. So, fingers crossed, we won’t have to keep living on the road this next week but, odds are, the apartment won’t be cleaned until the following week because it is Thanksgiving this week.
This week was also a week of intra-mission and inter-mission politics revolving around Salt Lake, miscommunication among interior mission leadership, and all the problem solving landing upon Elder Phan and I’s shoulders (and Elder Moss when we eventually brought him with us to everything). But, así es. Es la vida que tenemos.
Some other highlights include going to Doctrine of Christ at Minute Maid Park (now changing to Daikon Park), running into Camp Crystal Lake, family prayer at the Garn’s, fitting a piano in the back of our minivan for a music video, enduring to the end with Elder Phan when literally everything else (most of which I can’t even begin to disclose) went wrong including the cherry on the top when our most progressing friend, cô Hiền–who has been taught for over nine months–dropped us and said she never, ever wants to see us ever again. Truth be told, this week was as insane as the mission tour week and I don’t think it will ever be sane until after Christmas; I don’t even know where the time in the year went, but here we are.
Merry Thanksgiving for those who celebrate, happy almost Christmastime, and enjoy your friends and family because not everyone has the privilege to be reunited with their loved ones this year. In the midst of constant adversity, I am always able to turn to Heavenly Father with gratitude and humility–I have nothing right now aside from Him. I am thankful for His son, Jesus Christ, and His constant embrace whenever I fall and I am thankful for this Gospel, 1 Corinthians 13, Ether 12, and all of you. I love and miss you all and I hope that you all have an amazing Thanksgiving week.
